🐑 Lambing Season – Keep Dogs on Leads
It is currently lambing season. All dogs must be kept on a lead near livestock.
Even well-behaved dogs can cause distress or harm. Owners may be held legally responsible if livestock are worried or injured.
🌿 Hedge Cutting – Nesting Season
Bird nesting season runs from March to August.
- Avoid cutting hedges during this time
- It is an offence to disturb active nests
Always check for wildlife before starting any work.
🚧 Verges & Highways Land – What You Can Do
Grass verges are usually part of the public highway and are managed by Northumberland County Council.
- Do not cut, dig, or remove planting without permission
- Verges often support wildlife and biodiversity
- Any planting carried out by the Parish Council remains Council property
If you are unsure, check before carrying out any work.

🚗 Speed Survey Results – B6346 Eglingham
Speed surveys have been carried out at two locations in the village.
Summary of Results
| Location | Direction | Avg Daily Vehicles | Avg Speed | 85th Percentile |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eglingham West | Eastbound | 368 | 30 mph | 34.6 mph |
| Westbound | 348 | 30.8 mph | 35.9 mph | |
| Eglingham East | Eastbound | 502 | 31 mph | 35.7 mph |
| Westbound | 431 | 27.7 mph | 30.9 mph |
What This Means
The 85th percentile speed is the speed at or below which 85% of vehicles are travelling.
In a 30 mph limit, a threshold of 35 mph or above is typically required for police enforcement to be considered. This threshold has been met in some directions.
The data has been passed to Northumbria Police, who will consider whether enforcement measures are appropriate.
